Associate Professor Debra Bateman is a keen and active member of the Blue Ribbon family. Since her husband, Senior Constable Mark BATEMAN’s death in 2000, she has successfully raised two wonderful young teenagers, completed a PhD about young people and their visions for the future, and successfully developed a strong research profile internationally.
Debra is a member of the RMIT Council (Board) and Deputy Dean, Learning and Teaching of Global, Urban and Social Studies. Debra is engaged in initiatives both locally and globally that advocate justice, social care and aspirations for preferable futures.
Debra offers great skills in strategic planning, big vision and a commitment to implementation. She has extensive management experience across a number of settings and a high level of passion, energy and excitement. She has received national recognition for her outstanding capacities in leading and managing others, including being named the Australian Teacher Educator of the Year (2010), receiving an Office of Learning Teaching Citation for outstanding service and leadership for students (DEET), and a Australian University Teaching Excellence Award for leadership, service and innovation. Debra is also an Australia Day Ambassador.
