The Geelong Branch of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation is well supported by the local Police and other emergency services members that work together collaboratively in this region. Committee Members are also active in supporting the localKokoda Youth program which engages and challenges young people who could be at great risk of following anti-social paths.
A key project for the branch was the installation of a state of the art resuscitation unit as part of a redevelopment of the Geelong Hospital’s Emergency Department. A donation of $300,000 from the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation enabled the purchase of modern equipment to fit out two complete resuscitation bays and was a joint project between the Blue Ribbon Foundation and the local community through the Geelong Branch.
The unit was dedicated as a Police Memorial in memory of Sergeant Russell Thompson who was killed in the line of duty in 1987 whilst working in the local district.
The branch holds regular fundraising events included an Annual Ball that is well supported by the local community and businesses.
